03 Jan 2004 - Happy New Year! A glimpse of plans for 2004.
Due to not being able to spend the time I would have liked to on the registry website recently, this message is to wish RS America owners and enthusiasts the best for 2004 and to give a heads up of some planned events involving RS Americas for the coming year. For 2004 I intend to coordinate a couple of events for Registry members in the Southern California area inviting members to gather at a couple of annual events that were attended for the first time in 2003 and to add a couple of other new events. California Festival of Speed at Fontana March 26-28 2004.This event hosted by San Diego Region of PCA is held in Fontana (East of LA) and will consist of several opportunities for RS America owners including a Drivers Education event enabling participants to try driving on the banked oval and the street course on the in-field with an instructor. If you are not sure you are ready for a DE at the big track, then maybe the lunch time track tour plus an RS America corral, and a chance to watch a full PCA Club Race would be more suitable. Ventura German Autofest - date TBC (usually September). This event is a chance to enjoy a hectic weekend of all things Porsche from concours, vendor halls, memorabilia swapmeet, Tech sessions hosted by notable Porsche experts/enthusiasts, a parts swapmeet and much more all in the company of a gathering of RS Americas. Southern California RS America Registry weekend tour (mid August).Additionally, I am planning on having an RS America gathering for a drive through some of California's twistiest mountain roads around Mount Baldy and east of Los Angeles. If there is sufficient interest in this event, I will consider reserving some rooms for a night at a reasonable hotel and perhaps making a weekend tour of it. With 49 RS Americas in California, this has a potential to be an extraordinary event that will definitely need to be captured on both film and jpeg. So, if you and your are within reasonable distance of San Diego/LA, watch this page for news of this event. Also, if you have spare time while your RSA is in winter storage (if applicable), you might consider either putting together some ideas for an RS America related article for the site - or perhaps just sending in some of your favorite pictures of your car to share with others. Do you know which of the four RS America factory options was the most popular? What percentage of registry members cars were ordered as zero option lightweights (on which the factory curb weight of 2,954# was based)? or what percentage of registry members cars had all four options?
